The Beat-en Path

A Documentary Film:


If you find yourself in a world that fits like a shoe that was made for someone else, with rules that serve some ancient paradigm, if you wake up every morning because you hope to make a difference, if you have that inconsolable drive, the one that stirs and yearns and abuses you endlessly, if you scour the earth for meaning, and you'll never settle, don't give up, you aren't alone.

Here's the concept:

Our mission this summer is to travel around the country meeting everyday people who just want to make a difference. On this journey, we believe we'll discover a world full of people using their lives as a canvas to create beauty and innovation. If we can prove this theory, then perhaps this world won't feel as lonely, perhaps we won't feel so hopeless, perhaps the war that we should be fighting is the war on apathy.

The film will begin some cold morning in the near future:


The sun hasn't yet come up and I'm already shivering my granola into a ceramic bowl. My alarm hasn't gone off yet, but there's no point trying to sleep through the adrenaline. Today's the day we hit the road and I'm terrified. Three sleeping bodies are warmly sprawled across my living room. It's a minefield tiptoeing into my washroom, especially on this moonless morning.

Looking in the mirror I get the sense that this is the last time that naive boy will be staring back. Twenty-four years old and all we have to show for it is a 12x10 frame that says it's time to start living our livesIf they're still asleep in 30 minutes I'll have to wake them up; Rosemary-Thyme Egg Biscuits should do the trick.

No turning back now.

Our Generation is full of people who believe they are going to change the world, but it's easy to feel like nobody knows where to begin. Do you get behind a global cause? Do you take a job working as a "Company Man"? Do you settle down and start a family? This isn't your father's world anymore, and there's no easy answers. Whether you realize it or not we are all trailblazers, and you are the blinding edge of progress.

Right now this story is a piece of fiction, but soon the time will come to bring it to life. We are looking for the people who understand their voices matter. I am pumped, I feel motivated.....as I type this I am still in bed, in my pajamas watching a sunday morning movie....until I read this and now I feel guilty for having spent the whole morning in bed. Its a gorgeous day outside, the sun is out, the air is brisk, and activity is happening all around. Life is at a constant movement and I do not want to get left behind. I am getting out of bed now....See you when you reach SF, you will have a couch to sleep on.
